When it comes to work, there is one inevitability—there will be stress. No matter how well organized or prepared you are, there is no escaping the one singular truth about work– it often comes with a great deal of stress. Though you may not be able to outright avoid it, there are several tried and true ways of dealing with it that doesn’t involve pulling your hair out.
Talk it Out
In business, and in life, there will be disagreements. The best way to deal with those disagreements is to approach them head-on before they become a bigger issue. Don’t allow it to fester. The longer you spend focusing on your work conflicts, the longer you allow stress to distract you from your job.
Check your Stress at the Door
The truth is, at the end of your work day, there will always be more work left to accomplish. In a sense, your job is a revolving door. Once it’s finished one revolution, it will continue turning, and turning, and turning… This isn’t necessarily a bad thing. In fact, it’s what’s keeping you at a top level position in your organization. It only becomes a problem if you continue to bring it home with you. It’s important that you find a way to check your stress at your front door. Bringing home work stress can lead to other issues at home.
Learn from your Mistakes
But don’t let them distract you from accomplishing future goals. Instead, use them as a learning tool. The truth is, failure is inevitable. The key to success, is what you learn from your missteps, and how you recover.
Don’t Get Lost in the Details
There’s no doubt about it, details do matter, especially in business. However, getting caught up in details can kill your enthusiasm and stunt your progress. When you allocate too much of your time focusing on details, it’s easy to lose sight of growth plans. Instead, acknowledge that details are an essential part of any project, but stay focused of the larger picture and plan accordingly.
Take a Lap
We all know that walking comes with many health benefits, mainly burning calories. But did you know that walking has significant stress relieving benefits? Numerous studies have shown that walking not only relieves stress, but it actually improves memory and focus by up to 20 percent. When you feel yourself becoming overwhelmed, get out, get some fresh air, and allow your mind to refresh. Take a lap, or a mile. Your brain will thank you for it.
