You have completed your education, found a niche in your industry, and achieved goals greater than you could have imagined. However, your journey doesn’t end there. In order to continue to thrive and be successful in your business, you must keep investing in yourself. Below you will find five useful tips to keep growing as an individual and industry leader.
Choose a Business Coach
Choosing and engaging a business coach can be a challenge but is well worth the effort. Look for a coach that can help you to reach your objectives. Examples of these objectives include business strategy and goal setting, business development, sales strategies, start-up challenges and opportunities, and personal branding. By partnering with a coach, you invest the time to improve your business and create relationships that will prove to be beneficial for many years to come.
Weekly Goal Setting and Self Evaluation
As busy professionals, we sometimes get bogged down in the day-to-day tasks of our job without seeing the big picture. In order to combat the chaos, commit to setting goals. At the beginning of each week, take the time to set one main goal (or several if you wish) you would like to achieve in seven days. At the end of the week, don’t forget to evaluate if you achieved your stated goal. If not, that’s okay, but you need to double your commitment the next week to keep moving forward with your objectives.
Continue Learning
Whether you have reached the pinnacle of your career or you are still climbing the corporate ladder, you need to keep your skills and outlook current. Continued learning does not have to be time consuming; check out a podcast relevant to your career, attend a professional dinner, or reach out to someone you admire in your field for an informational interview. Use all the resources and connections available to you!
Prioritize Healthy Habits
We all know that healthy eating, sleeping, and exercise habits are important to lead a productive life. However, very few of us prioritize these healthy habits. It is important that you schedule time in your day for these activities; put them on your calendar and commit to it! Use an hour long, undistracted lunch not only to fill you up but as a time to refocus your attention and plan your afternoon activities. Even a 20-minute break has been proven to help sustain concentration and productivity throughout the remainder of the day.
What you eat is also important; chose healthy “brain” foods, such as nuts, fish, and whole grains. If you are still feeling fatigue make sure you are drinking enough water.
Take a Vacation!
When was the last time you cancelled your vacation because of work commitments? According to a 2014 survey, 84 percent of executives have been forced to cancel vacation plans at least once during their career. In order to avoid the urge to cancel your vacation, book a nonrefundable ticket. The fact that your cannot reschedule will make it more difficult to back out of your vacation plans.
You can also take a mini vacation at home. It is incredibly important for productivity to take time to escape your everyday life. But you really must escape; don’t spend your time glancing at mobile devices or “checking in” with employees or co-workers. The amazing career you have built for yourself will be waiting for you when you return!
