The 3C’s of the New Workplace and the Principles that Drive the Future
One can hardly open a business journal or industry magazine without seeing an article about Artificial Intelligence (AI) and its numerous influences on the job market. There is a general fear that technology, and AI in particular, will take over the workplace and cause thousands of workers to lose their jobs overnight. However, this fear is unfounded. Like many changes before – such as the industrial and communications revolutions – this technology revolution may end up creating more jobs.
This new revolution should not be feared, but embraced for all the technological changes and the new opportunities it will offer. The true challenge is to make sure the population is well educated and prepared to take on the new roles that will come. In a recent report, Cognizant offers an optimistic vision of the future. They see the future of work based on certain principles. Here are a few they mention in their report:
Work has always changed
Throughout history the workforce has leaned to adjust to change and with it new roles emerged.
Machine needs man
Machines need to be created, marketed, and sold. This is impossible without man.
Don’t underestimate human imagination or ingenuity
Man’s determination to improve things will always create new work.
Technology solves and creates problems
In the technology world, there is a secret – that every solution begets a problem. These new problems will need people to address them and thus, the cycle continues.
Also mentioned in the Cognizant report are 21 jobs that they see as cornerstone “jobs of the future.” Some of the jobs included in the report are:
- Genetic Diversity Officer
- Financial Wellness Coach
- Data Detective
- Genomic Portfolio Director
- Master of Edge Computing
- Cyber City Analyst
- AI Assisted Health Care Technician
While overwhelming at first, when looked at collectively, these jobs fall into several categories. Cognizant believes these jobs have three things in common. They are:
Coaching
The ability to help an individual or group to attain the skills necessary to succeed in the new technology-based economy will be invaluable. This will give rise to an entire industry of coaching professionals.
Caring
What do many of these new jobs have in common? An interest in the health and wellbeing of people that helps them cope and succeed in the new tech economy.
Connecting
In a new world where machines take a major role, the ability to connect humans and to bridge the gap between machine and people both virtually and physically will be invaluable.
