The burden of leadership is especially heavy in times of crisis. Fortunately, such periods are also peppered with opportunities to reinvent and reinvigorate your business. Agile entrepreneurs are already repurposing equipment and staff to aid in the fight against COVID-19. Others have identified niche goods and services that were previously unfeasible.

These 5 questions transform the unique circumstances in which we find ourselves into a launchpad for creative solutions in the post-pandemic world.

  • Which of my backburner ideas should I act on? Every enterprising leader has a thousand and one ideas and no time to implement them all. Well, now you do. Scour your list of Great Things to be Made and Done for workable concepts and start realizing them. There is no time like a disruption to perform a pivot. Or to branch off into something new entirely.
  • Where am I playing catch up? Time is our most valuable commodity and the COVID-19 lull has blessed us with a generous, unexpected helping of it. This is the perfect opportunity to get your operations in order before the situation gradually but inevitably returns to normal. The odds are that the coming period of recovery will be especially hectic so identify trouble spots immediately and resolve them quickly.
  • Is my team in the loop? It is difficult to assess whether lines of communication within your organization are working as they should in the midst of a normal work schedule. The compartmentalized structure of remote work makes it easier to identify who and/or where the weakest links are. Streamlined interpersonal and inter-departmental channels will permanently enhance efficiency.
  • Who are my go-to people? Everyone reacts differently to pressure and adversity. While the rapid pace at which the COVID-19 pandemic unfolded unsettled most of us, you will notice that certain team members flourish under the weight of unfamiliar situations and dissimilar expectations. If these individuals are not already part of your core team, it is perhaps time to invite them in.
  • Should I go back to normal when this is all over? I will answer this one for you: Absolutely not. Forget that there is a status quo if you want to remain agile and adaptive. Resist the temptation to settle back into a groove, waiting to react to the next crisis. No one expects you to be able to predict the next global pandemic but the ability to anticipate possible repercussions and solutions is a skill you can work on now.
