In my many years working with executives and entrepreneurs, I have noticed a recurring trait among those who achieve remarkable results: hunger. This is not the hunger for recognition or validation, but a deep, internal drive to push beyond limits, to innovate, and to keep moving forward even when the path is unclear. Hunger fuels resilience, sharpens decision-making, and allows leaders to navigate the pressures of an ultra-competitive world with clarity and focus.

Too often, I see talented executives and business owners settling for comfortable levels of success. They have the skills, the resources, and the knowledge, yet they stop short of pursuing the opportunities that require risk, persistence, and relentless curiosity. In a landscape that rewards those willing to outthink and outwork the competition, hunger is a differentiator that cannot be taught or faked.

Nurturing hunger requires awareness, intentionality and an overarching restlessness. It starts with asking yourself why your goals matter (I’m always talking about knowing your “why”!) and then committing to the work required to achieve them. It means embracing discomfort as a sign of growth and using setbacks as a guide for refining strategies. Leaders who cultivate this level of drive create ripple effects, inspiring teams, building trust, and pushing their organizations to new heights. This “X Factor” is oftentimes something that can be built with deep awareness and commitment.

I encourage my clients to examine where hunger is present in their work and where it could grow stronger. Challenge yourself to identify areas where effort is being measured, not by potential, but by convenience. Hunger is the quiet engine behind meaningful impact, and in a world that never stops evolving, it may be the single most important attribute a leader can foster.

My advice for 2026? Get hungry!!
